Federal Judge Declines Ruling, Sets Briefing Schedule in 2AF v New Jersey
Federal District Judge Michael A. Shipp met with both sides in the Second Amendment Foundation’s lawsuit challenging New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy’s order shutting down firearms dealers in the Garden State. In Kashinsky v. Murphy, the SAF is joined by the New Jersey Second Amendment Society in alleging violation of “civil rights under color of law” by shutting down firearms dealerships, preventing citizens and businesses from exercising their rights under the Second and Fourteenth Amendments. The Second Amendment Foundation’s Alan Gottlieb tells The Outdoor Wire Digital Network that Judge Shipp has set Friday, April 3 as the date for the state’s opposition brief to the suit with the SAF/NJSAS response four days later, Tuesday, April 4.

New York Shutters Kimber NY Facilities

YONKERS, N.Y. — Due to the New York state decision to shutter non-essential businesses as part of the COVID-19 response plan, Kimber Mfg. Inc. has stopped production at its New York facilities.

Production continues at Kimber’s new, state-of-the-art Troy, Alabama manufacturing facility, with the entire line of handguns and long guns being assembled. Due to the large number of parts manufactured in Yonkers and the state mandated closure in New York, the Troy facility will suspend production on March 31st. “This situation is unfortunate as we were off to an incredible start in gun shipments in 2020 and were running our factories seven days a week. We would like to thank our dealers and consumers for their overwhelmingly positive response to our new 2020 products,” said Greg Grogan, Kimber president. With that said, if you are in the market for a Kimber firearm, now is the time to make that purchase.”

Kimber’s Alabama based customer service and repair services remain open to help customers with any questions they may have. In addition, the Alabama based Kimber online store is open and products are shipping as long as inventory lasts. Montana based dealer sales and customer service departments also remain open.

“We greatly appreciate the patience and understanding of our dealers and our fans,” Grogan said. “Rest assured that any disruptions in product manufacturing are temporary, but the duration is out of our hands. As soon as we are allowed, we have plans in place to restart production as quickly as possible.”

In addition to the temporary closure of the Kimber, New York facilities, Kimber has adopted CDC-issued guidelines to protect employee health and prevent the spread of COVID-19 at all Kimber locations.

“Much like all Americans, Kimber will be challenged by these closures,” Grogan said. “But no one here has any doubt that we will all soon be back in production and stronger than ever.”

Ohio Legislators Call on Governor to Open Up Legal Firearms Business

Contact: Louis Crescitelli 973-300-0200

OROHO, SPACE, & WIRTHS CALL UPON GOVERNOR TO OPEN UP LEGAL FIREARMS BUSINESSES

– Constitutional rights do not vanish at the whims of bureaucrats –

After Pennsylvania and multiple other states has allowed federally licensed firearms stores to remain open as an essential business, Senator Steve Oroho and Assemblymen Parker Space and Hal Wirths are calling upon Governor Murphy to do the same.

“Pennsylvania, Connecticut, and Illinois are allowing gun stores to remain open,” said Oroho (R-Sussex, Warren, Morris). “It is imperative that the New Jersey State Police be allowed to conduct NICS checks and other background checks so our law-abiding residents can choose to acquire tools to protect themselves and their loved ones.”

The Governor on Saturday issued Executive Order 107 which determined which businesses are essential verses non-essential during this emergency. Federally licensed gun stores were not included as essential and the National Instant Check System in New Jersey (NICS) which the State Police operates was shut down. NICS checks in New Jersey are now mandatory for not only sales from a licensed dealer but for most private firearms transactions. And all gun ranges, both private and public, were shut down as well.

“With one stroke of the pen, the constitutional rights of every law abiding New Jerseyan were taken away,” said Space (R-Sussex, Warren, Morris). “Other businesses are allowed to be open as long as they practice social distancing and minimize the number of employees needed. Gun stores and ranges need to be offered the same opportunity to be open.”

Various organizations and private citizens are preparing suits in federal court including the National Rifle Association, the Association of NJ Rifle and Pistol Clubs, the New Jersey Second Amendment Society, and the Second Amendment Foundation.

“It is completely outrageous that law-abiding citizens are being denied their rights in a time where people may need to exercise their rights for the first time,” said Wirths (R-Sussex, Warren, Morris). “We all saw the news reports in the past two weeks of people who never purchased a firearm before buying them up; I am sure every anti-Second Amendment politician saw this exercise of freedom and were losing their minds and want to put a stop to it. It is up to us and the citizenry to fight them and the administration and open up the legal means to purchase firearms and ammunition.”

DELAWARE BACKS DOWN, ALLOWS FIREARMS, AMMO SALES, SAF CONFIRMS

BELLEVUE, WA — The State of Delaware has backed away from closing gun shops during the current Coronavirus pandemic crisis, a decision the Second Amendment Foundation says is the right thing to do.

Under the revised language of the state’s emergency order, “Firearms dealers may conduct sales of firearms, ammunition, and other goods directly related to responsible firearm storage and maintenance, by appointment only. No more than two appointments per half hour shall occur, and sellers are limited to operating during normal working hours they operated on prior to the State of Emergency. Any seller who violates such directive may be subject to criminal prosecution or other civil enforcement remedies up to and including arrest or the involuntary closure of the business.”

“This is a great win for Delaware gun owners and the right to keep and bear arms,” said SAF founder and Executive Vice President Alan M. Gottlieb. “After we sued New Jersey, our threatened lawsuit against Delaware, in which we were partnering with our friends at the National Rifle Association and Firearms Policy Coalition played a key role in bringing about this change of heart.”

SAF is currently considering lawsuits against several jurisdictions over gun shop closures that were announced as part of executive orders that do not recognize gun and ammunition dealers and suppliers as “essential businesses.”

“We’re delighted that cooler heads have prevailed in Delaware,” Gottlieb observed. “A considerable amount of hard work went into this, and to be honest, we’d rather not have to file lawsuits against anybody under the present circumstances.

“We can think of no more essential endeavor outside of health care and emergency services during a time of crisis than a business that enables citizens to exercise their fundamental right protected by the Second Amendment,” he concluded.

The Second Amendment Foundation (www.saf.org) is the nation’s oldest and largest tax-exempt education, research, publishing and legal action group focusing on the Constitutional right and heritage to privately own and possess firearms. Founded in 1974, The Foundation has grown to more than 650,000 members and supporters and conducts many programs designed to better inform the public about the consequences of gun control.

CCRKBA: Biden Names Beto as “Point Man” on Gun Control

Contact: Alan Gottlieb (425) 454-4911

BELLEVUE, WA – Democrat Joe Biden made it clear in Texas that he despises American gun owners by declaring former rival Beto O’Rourke, the gun-grabbing former Texas congressman, as his point man on what he called “the gun problem,” the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms said today.

“For Biden to embrace Beto should erase any doubt where the former vice president truly stands on gun rights,” said CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb. “Months ago, we vowed to let nobody forget O’Rourke’s brazen threat to take away people’s firearms, and we meant it.”

O’Rourke’s presidential campaign crumbled after he declared during a debate in Houston, “Hell, yes, we’re going to take your AR15, your AK47.” When nobody else on stage at the time made any effort at all to counter the statement, Gottlieb said Democrats had officially become the “Party of Gun Confiscation.”

Biden told O’Rourke in front of his Dallas audience, “You’re gonna take care of the gun problem with me, you’re gonna be the one who leads this effort. I’m counting on you, I’m counting on you, we need you badly.”

“I’ll tell you what Biden needs even worse than O’Rourke,” Gottlieb responded. “He needs to kiss any credibility he ever had with gun owners a permanent goodbye. Beto O’Rourke represents everything that is wrong with today’s gun ban extremism, and he is one of the worst enemies of the Second Amendment. While he was campaigning, he said gun owners would be given the option of turning in their guns in exchange for cash, or risk being prosecuted. Then he outright threatened to confiscate the firearms of law-abiding Americans.

“We’re not sure how to explain this to Biden,” he added, “but accepting O’Rourke’s endorsement and then vowing to put him in charge of national gun policy, should he win in November, amounts to quid-pro-quo.

“Biden’s mask is completely off,” Gottlieb concluded. “He’s not just a doddering Democrat pushing to become president, he’s an extremist anti-gunner who just promised to put a gun prohibition fanatic in charge of his administration’s gun policy. That’s not just a difference in philosophy, it’s a declaration of war.”

With more than 650,000 members and supporters nationwide, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms (www.ccrkba.org) is one of the nation’s premier gun rights organizations. As a non-profit organization, the Citizens Committee is dedicated to preserving firearms freedoms through active lobbying of elected officials and facilitating grass-roots organization of gun rights activists in local communities throughout the United States.

SAF Warns of “Toolkit” for Gun Control Lobbying

The Second Amendment Foundation is cautioning the public about a new “toolkit” for gun control lobbying groups to help them campaign for passage of so-called “red flag” laws that create “Extreme Risk Protection Orders” designed to take firearms from people based on allegations from family members, intimate partners or others, raising concerns about due process.

The document was produced jointly by the Alliance for Gun Responsibility, the Giffords gun control group and the Educational Fund to Stop Gun Violence.

“This document,” noted SAF founder and Executive Vice President Alan M. Gottlieb, “raises alarms because there’s a lot in it about taking someone’s guns, but only two paragraphs about returning firearms to their rightful owner.”

He recalled an earlier 80-page guide, reportedly paid for by Michael Bloomberg’s Mayors Against Illegal Guns, discovered during an Internet search, that provided strategies to anti-gun groups for mounting gun control campaigns in their communities. He co-authored a book about that experience titled “Dancing In Blood: Exposing the Gun Ban Lobby’s Playbook to Destroy Your Rights.”

Gottlieb’s alarms were raised by the inclusion of a letter from a California sheriff’s official that referred to a May 2014 multiple murder in Isla Vista, California as “a shooting spree.”

“Six victims in that rampage were stabbed or slashed to death,” Gottlieb recalled. “It also suggests the shooting occurred at the University of California, Santa Barbara campus, but it didn’t. The term ‘gun violence’ appears throughout, but there’s not a word about ‘knife violence’ nor any mention of the fact that the killer bought three firearms, all legally with background checks and waiting periods.

“We’re all for preventing violent crimes and tragedies such as suicide,” he added, “but there are genuine civil rights and due process concerns related to the use of such orders to disarm someone, following a court hearing they may not even be aware of, before they have a chance to defend against any allegations. This guide asserts guns are ‘temporarily’ removed, but that is not really be the case in some instances.

“This document calls itself a ‘toolkit’ for saving lives,” Gottlieb said, “but it talks more about taking guns from people than protecting their rights and means of self-defense. So far as we can tell, this is just another gun control strategy guide aimed at preventing gun ownership rather than preventing tragedies.”

CCRKBA: Bloomberg’s “Leveraged Buyout” of the 2A Continues

BELLEVUE, WA – Anti-gun billionaire Michael Bloomberg is continuing what appears to be an attempted “leveraged buyout” of the Second Amendment as Everytown for Gun Safety—the group he co-founded and bankrolled—has pledged to spend $8 million in Texas; just part of the $60 million that group has vowed to spend in order to elect anti-rights politicians this fall.

That’s the observation from the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms. Former New York City Mayor Bloomberg, seeking to buy his way into the White House by running for president as a Democrat, has weaponized his vast wealth to buy an election. But CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb is reminding Bloomberg that the U.S. Constitution is not for sale.

“Michael Bloomberg is spending a fortune on his Johnny-come-lately presidential campaign,” Gottlieb said, “but the one prize he really seems to want—a chance to turn America into his kingdom—will prove to be beyond even his financial reach. He’s tried to tell us what to eat, he’s tried to tell us how much soda we can drink and he has been unrelenting in his crusade to erase the Second Amendment from the Bill of Rights.

“But Bloomberg can’t buy American liberty,” he continued, “because Americans aren’t willing to sell. He has amassed great wealth, but that doesn’t give him the right to say nobody else has any rights. And we’re certain that the more Bloomberg talks and the more he spends, the more people will realize this man should not be trusted with the future of the United States.

“The Everytown Action Fund pledge to spend ‘at least’ $60 million to elect gun prohibitionists to public office at all levels should alarm, if not terrify, every American voter,” Gottlieb added. “This is the United States of America, not the United Kingdom of Bloomberg, and we should be wary of anybody willing to spend so much money in an effort to put people in office at all levels of government who are politically indebted to a single wealthy demagogue.

“If Mike Bloomberg thinks he sees a pricetag on America,” Gottlieb concluded, “he shouldn’t run for election, he should run to the nearest doctor for an eye exam, because he’s seeing something that isn’t there.”

ZEISS T-Series Reticles for Long-Range Precision

White Plains, NY – ZEISS’ new ZMOA-T Series Reticles cater to hunters and shooters reaching out to longer distances for precise shot placement on distant targets, smaller targets, and smaller targets at longer distances. From the shooting range, to competition, to long-range open terrain hunting, the T-Series thin-line reticles offers an impeccably fast aiming solution and pinpoint accuracy.

The thin-line reticles are designed to cover the least amount of the target possible while maintaining sharp and easily visible lines that create a distinctive sight picture and aiming reference. This gives the shooter higher levels of confidence in all shots taken, no matter how far down range. Each hash mark represents one MOA spacing. MOA references are easily identified with even numbers placed adjacent to the main vertical and horizontal lines of the reticle for quick reference. The floating center point of aim allows for precise shot placement, and floating dots left and right of the vertical centerline allow for windage calls and confirmation of bullet impact without guesswork.

“These new reticles are what serious varmint hunters, long-range hunters and shooters asked for, and we could not be more thrilled with the outcome,” said Kyle Brown, Director of Marketing/Product – ZEISS Consumer Products for Carl Zeiss SBE, LLC. “These new second focal plane reticles eliminate the guesswork from long-range shooting and ultimately produces precise shot placement and more accurate groups. Having the ability to clearly see small targets, and hold precisely on target at high magnification is invaluable at longer ranges—this, matched with ZEISS superior glass and components makes for a best-in-class riflescope.”

The Conquest V4 4-16×44 model hosts the ZMOA-T30 reticle and the Conquest V4 6-24×50 model incorporates the ZMOAi-T20 illuminated reticle. With the illuminated ZMOAi-T20, only the center point of aim illuminates for ideal low-light reticle illumination management. The designation of “T20” and “T30” represents the MOA hash marks available below the horizontal centerline of the main reticle.

NSSF Files to Intervene in Federal Lawsuit

Firearms and Ammunition Industry to Oppose Antigun State Attorneys General Effort to Stop Jobs-Creating Rules Going Into Effect

NEWTOWN, Conn. — The National Shooting Sports Foundation® (NSSF®), the trade association for the firearms and ammunition industry, and a small Washington state business filed a motion in the U.S. District Court, Western District of Washington in Seattle to intervene in a lawsuit filed by 23 state attorneys general to block two recently announced rules by the Trump administration. The rules changes would create jobs and reduce onerous and costly regulations on small businesses.

Washington Attorney General Bob Ferguson, and 22 other state attorneys general, are suing to halt export reforms due to go into effect March 9 following the final rules moving export licensing of sporting and commercial firearms and ammunition products to the Commerce Department from the State Department. The export reforms were begun during the Obama administration and only recently completed. The attorney’s general complaint centers on claims the technology for 3D printing of firearms would be “de-regulated.” However, their complaint seeks to block the reforms in their entirety. These rules would end punitive registration fees on small businesses that do not export firearms or ammunition products. The motion filed this week asks the court to allow NSSF, as the firearms industry’s trade association, to intervene in the case to defend its members’ interests.

“Attorney General Ferguson, and the other attorneys general, are continuing to punish small business owners to score political points,” said Lawrence G. Keane, Senior Vice President for Government Relations and Public Affairs and General Counsel for NSSF. “The attorneys general target only the export reforms treatment of technical data related to 3D-printed firearms, yet seek an injunction against, or to vacate altogether, the reforms that make American businesses more competitive. This is an unacceptable overreach by states to dictate federal export policy.”

NSSF’s motion is joined by Frederic’s Arms & Smiths, a local gunsmith shop in Richland, Wash., established in 2012. This small business, comprised of just the two co-owners, offers services including firearms repair, restoration, cleaning, customization and building of firearms. Frederic’s Arms does not, nor has it ever, created firearms through 3D printing or exported any firearm.

However, the complaint led by Attorney General Ferguson would stop reforms that abolish a punitive annual $2,250 registration fee levied on all gunsmiths, whether or not they ever build or export a firearm. This fee is a significant burden for Frederic’s Arms which was forced to raise its prices fees to cover the cost of the registration fee. That limits Frederic’s Arms’ competitive ability and risks the business’s livelihood. The lawsuit brought by the state attorneys general is creating uncertainty if an injunction were to be granted or were successful in stopping the reforms entirely.

The Trump Administration published the final rules to transfer export licensing of sporting and commercial firearms and ammunition products to the Commerce Department from the State Department Jan. 23. In addition to eliminating the punitive $2,250 annual registration fee for manufacturers of firearms and ammunition products as well as small gunsmith businesses, the change removes unnecessary and outdated regulations and allows the State Department to focus its export control resources on those items that give our war fighters a tactical advantage. The new rules also maintain export control over technical data for 3D printing firearms, in addition to existing domestic federal and state laws. It makes no sense to treat the commercial sale of hunting or target shooting rifles with the same level of scrutiny as nuclear weapons, tanks and fighter aircraft.

Virginia House Passes Suppressor Ban

RICHMOND, VA — This afternoon the Virginia House of Delegates voted 51 – 48 in favor of passing House Bill 961, Delegate Mark Levine’s (D-45) “assault firearm” and suppressor ban. All 45 Republican Delegates voted against the bill. They were joined by Del. Lee Carter (D-50), Del. Steve Heretick (D-79), and Del. Rosalyn Tyler (D-75), with Del. Kelly Convirs-Fowler (D-21) abstaining. Now that the bill has passed the House, it will move to the Senate for consideration by the Senate Judiciary Committee.

The suppressor provisions of House Bill 961 were amended in Committee on Friday, removing the confiscation provision that was previously included. Should the bill become law, anyone who possesses a federally registered suppressor in Virginia prior to July 1st would be able to legally maintain possession of their property. However, the acts of importing, selling, manufacturing, and purchasing suppressors would be prohibited for civilians after enactment. For this reason, among others, HB 961 remains a bill that the American Suppressor Association strongly opposes.

The relevant suppressor language, which was passed by the House, reads:

18.2-308.11. Import, sale, transfer, etc., of silencers; penalty.

  1. It is unlawful for any person to import, sell, transfer, manufacture, or purchase a silencer, provided that a person may transfer a silencer in accordance with the provisions of the National Firearms Act (26 U.S.C. § 5801 et seq.). A violation of this section is punishable as a Class 6 felony.

The American Suppressor Association will continue to fight against HB 961, but we need your help. If you are a Virginia resident, please take the time to contact members of the Senate Judiciary committee by using our form below. We ask that you politely urge them to oppose this draconian legislation.

About the American Suppressor Association

The American Suppressor Association (ASA) is the unified voice of the suppressor community. We exist for one reason and one reason only: to fight for pro-suppressor reform nationwide.

Suppressor owners everywhere are being rallied to make their voices heard by joining ASA or buying a raffle ticket during the “Cans Not Bans: Sic Semper Tinnitus” member giveaway. Proceeds support the ASA’s organized opposition to Governor Northam’s unpopular attempt to ban suppressors in the state. Anyone who does so before March 2nd will be entered to win one of 12 prizes. Already an ASA member? As long as your membership is up to date as of March 2nd, you’ll be entered as well!

Membership in the American Suppressor Association amplifies everyone’s voices and provides the necessary funding to stay engaged in this essential fight in Virginia, Washington D.C., and throughout the country. Make no mistake, this fight is about more than just Virginia. If we allow misguided policy to take hold in The Old Dominion, it will spread like wildfire. The American Suppressor Association will do everything in our power to prevent this unacceptable outcome. Visit CansNotBans.com for more details.

CCRKBA Supports New School Safety Initiative

Contact: Alan Gottlieb (425) 454-4911

BELLEVUE, WA – The Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms today threw its support behind a new effort by President Donald Trump’s administration aimed at improving school safety with the launch of a dedicated website to provide information to help local school districts shape their own strategies.

The SchoolSafety.gov website is described as a “one stop shop for resources, best practices, federal programs, and grants for school safety.” President Trump met with families of students at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School who died in the tragic Feb. 14 shooting almost two years ago.

“We think this is a step in the right direction,” said CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb, “because it focuses on actual school security without proposing restrictions on law-abiding firearms owners that would not improve school safety, nor would they have prevented the tragedy in Parkland.

“We’re tired of seeing America’s honest firearms owners being made the scapegoats for horrible crimes they did not commit,” he continued. “The administration’s new effort appears to tackle the problem head-on, without all the nonsense rhetoric repeatedly espoused by the gun prohibition lobby. It has the support of Parkland families who met with the president today and thanked him for his efforts.”

According to the White House, the new SchoolSafety.gov website helps K-12 school safety community members take action to make their schools safer, by providing best practices and strategies that can be implemented in their districts.

It allows any member of the school community to tailor an action plan to their districts, providing strategies, resources and grant opportunities.

“Firearms owners are also parents, and you’ll find many teachers and school staff and administrators who are also responsible gun owners, and they are all just as interested in making schools safe as anyone else,” Gottlieb observed. “We are part of every community, and we are eager to find solutions and take action to prevent future tragedies.”

SAF Joins Amicus Brief in Calif. Gun Ban Challenge

Contact: Alan Gottlieb (425) 454-7012

BELLEVUE, WA – The Second Amendment Foundation is joining several other rights organizations in an amicus brief to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit in support of a case challenging California’s ban on so-called “assault rifles.”

SAF is joined by the Firearms Policy Coalition, Firearms Policy Foundation, Madison Society Foundation, California Gun Rights Foundation and Independence Institute in the brief. They are represented by attorney Joseph G.S. Greenlee of Sacramento.

The case is known as Stephen Rupp, et. al. v. Xavier Becerra.

Plaintiffs/appellants are challenging the California ban on firearms in common use, asking the court whether that ban violates the Second Amendment, which was incorporated to the states via the 14th Amendment almost ten years ago in a landmark Supreme Court ruling known as McDonald v. City of Chicago, a SAF case.

As noted in the amicus brief, the Supreme Court has determined that if arms are “in common use,” they are constitutionally protected and cannot be banned. Only those arms determined to be “dangerous and unusual” – and therefore not “in common use” – they are not protected by the constitution.

SAF founder and Executive Vice President Alan M. Gottlieb said SAF involvement and interest in this case is not only appropriate, but necessary.

“Honest citizens living in California are entitled to the same exercise of rights as citizens of other states,” Gottlieb said. “This case is all about rights, and whether Golden State gun owners can be arbitrarily denied their rights simply because some people want to treat the Second Amendment as a government-regulated privilege.

“Just because some people don’t like certain firearms is no justification to prohibit other people from owning and responsibly using such firearms,” he added. “A right must be zealously protected and defended, and we are hopeful the Appeals Court agrees.”

Federal Expands 6.5 Creedmoor Line, Adds Options in 6.5 PRC

Federal Expands Lineup of 6.5 Creedmoor Loads and Adds Options in 6.5 PRC

ANOKA, Minnesota – – Federal has expanded its available loads in 6.5 to cover a range of shooting disciplines. The newest additions for 2020 include the 6.5 Creedmoor Swift Scirocco II, Terminal Ascent and the MeatEater Series Trophy Copper. Terminal Ascent is also available in 6.5 PRC. In addition, Federal has expanded its trusted Federal Premium Gold Medal rifle ammunition line with a new 6.5 PRC load.

Born as a competition round, the 6.5 Creedmoor has quickly become one of the most popular hunting cartridges on the market. No surprise, either, since its flat trajectory, high ballistic coefficients and blistering velocities give it a deadly combination of long-range accuracy and lethal hunting firepower—all from a short-action platform with relatively mild recoil.

“Fans of the 6.5 Creedmoor have several hard-hitting new options at their disposal, thanks to a flurry of new introductions, plus a new 6.5 PRC loading,” said Federal Centerfire Rifle Ammunition Product Director Mike Holm. “In 2020, we have raised the bar in performance and versatility with high-powered loads perfect for a variety of hunting or competition shooting with new Berger, MeatEater, Swift, and Terminal Ascent options. We are especially excited for customers to experience these four newest additions to our long list of 6.5 cartridges.”

6.5 PRC Gold Medal Berger – 140-grain, 2,925 FPS: The fast-flat-shooting cartridge has already proven itself in Precision Rifle Series competition and has earned the respect of elite long-range shooters. The new round is loaded with the extremely accurate Berger Hybrid bullet, and paired with Gold Medal match primers, Federal brass and specially formulated propellant.

6.5 PRC and 6.5 Creedmoor Terminal Ascent – 130-grain, 3,000 and 2,800 FPS: Bonded construction penetrates deep on close targets, while the patented Slipstream polymer tip initiates expansion at velocities 200 fps lower than comparable designs. The bullet’s long, sleek profile offers an extremely high ballistic coefficient, and its AccuChannel groove technology improves accuracy and minimizes drag. Now available in a full selection of long-range hunting cartridges.

6.5 Creedmoor Swift Scirocco II – 130-grain, 2,800 FPS: The bullet’s streamlined design and high ballistic coefficient produce flat trajectories, while retaining more velocity and energy downrange. Aided by its proprietary polymer tip, the Scirocco II expands at minimal velocities yet offers high weight retention at close range thanks to its bonded copper jacket.

6.5 Creedmoor Trophy Copper MeatEater – 120-grain, 2,875 FPS: The polymer-tipped Trophy Copper bullet retains 99 percent of its weight for the deepest penetration possible in an expanding bullet. Plus, the tipped bullet cavity is optimized for reliable expansion across a broad spectrum of velocities. As a bonus, its grooved shank boosts accuracy in a wide range of firearms, while the nickel-plated case prevents corrosion and aids in faster, easier extraction. It also features a boat-tail design to increase ballistic coefficient for higher downrange velocities, more energy on impact and less bullet drop. This is the official ammunition of MeatEater, with new packaging that highlights this partnership.

These new products were announced at the 2020 SHOT Show in Las Vegas, Nevada, January 21-24. New Terminal Ascent ship at the end of January 2020. Swift Scirocco II, MeatEater Trophy Copper and 6.5 PRC Gold Medal Berger are scheduled to ship in the Spring of 2020.

Federal ammunition can be found at dealers nationwide or purchased online direct from Federal. For more information on all products from Federal or to shop online, visit www.federalpremium.com.

SAF Challenge to IL Non-Resident CCW Ban Backed by State AGs

Contact: Alan Gottlieb (425) 454-7012

BELLEVUE, WA – Eighteen state attorneys general have joined in an amicus brief to the U.S. Supreme Court supporting a Second Amendment Foundation petition for writ of certiorari seeking high court review in the case of Culp v. Raoul, which challenges the refusal by Illinois to take applications from non-residents for an Illinois carry license.

Plaintiffs are asking the Court to determine “Whether the Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms requires that the State of Illinois allow qualified non-residents to apply for an Illinois concealed carry license.” SAF is joined by the Illinois State Rifle Association, Illinois Carry and several private citizens. They are represented by attorney David G. Sigale of Wheaton.

The amicus brief, submitted by Missouri Attorney General Eric S. Schmitt, is joined by attorneys general from Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Kansas, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Dakota, Texas, Utah and West Virginia.

While Illinois statute says the State Police “shall by rule allow for nonresident license applications from any state or territory of the United States with laws related to firearm ownership, possession, and carrying, that are substantially similar to the requirements to obtain a license” in Illinois.

“However,” the petition for review says, “that right to concealed carry is denied, in a discriminatory and arbitrary manner, to the law-abiding and qualified persons in 45 states, who are prohibited from even applying for an Illinois concealed carry license (“CCL”), regardless of their qualifications. Therefore, Illinois’s prohibition on virtually all non-residents obtaining a concealed carry license for self-defense violates the Petitioners’ rights under the Second Amendment.”

“We’re grateful to the 18 attorneys general for joining the amicus, on behalf of the residents of their respective states,” said SAF founder and Executive Vice President Alan M. Gottlieb. “The right to bear arms does not end at the Illinois state line, and untold numbers of citizens from other states have occasion to travel to or through Illinois and they should not be expected to leave their right of self- defense at the border.”

It features a short Monte Carlo style comb to provide a proper cheek weld, two sling studs for sling attachment, and a free-floated barrel channel for better accuracy. For options, you get the essentials only: choice of color, optional pillars, and either a satin or glossy finish. You can upgrade to a 1-inch recoil pad; purchased separately.

Spike camps in the backcountry are a strategic necessity to tipping the odds in your favor and allowing you to do more with less. The Spike CampTM thumbhole stock is a high-quality, extremely comfortable, lightweight, essentials-only stock. The performance of a free-floated barrel, standard sling studs, and a thumbhole grip give you everything you need to achieve success, and all while keeping weight and size down.

The Spike CampTM is available in all 13 of Boyds’ color combinations and will be available the week of January 13th, 2020.

As with all Boyds gunstocks, the Spike CampTM is constructed of top-grade premium laminated hardwood that is dried to exacting specifications to ensure rigidity and stability, and then sealed with a strong, beautiful finish that is chemical-resistant for long-lasting durability in all weather conditions.

SAF, ISRA File Suit against Illinois State Police

Contact: Alan Gottlieb (425) 454-7012

BELLEVUE, WA – The Second Amendment Foundation and Illinois State Rifle Association have filed suit in U.S. District Court against the Illinois State Police, ISP Director Brendan Kelly and Jessica Trame in her official capacity as Bureau Chief of the Illinois State Police Firearms Services Bureau, alleging they have allowed Firearm Owner Identification Card and Concealed Carry applications to languish for interminable periods, thus violating the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding Illinois citizens.

The lawsuit was filed on behalf of Illinois residents Ryan A. Thomas and Goran Lazic. Plaintiffs are represented by attorneys David G. Sigale of Wheaton and Gregory Bedell of Chicago. The lawsuit is known as Thomas, et.al. v. Illinois State Police, et.al.

The lawsuit, filed in the Northern District of Illinois, Eastern Division federal court, says ISP “has swept or transferred funds totaling more than $29,500,000.00 from the State Police Firearms Services Fund, the State Police Operations Assistance Fund, and the State Police Services Fund away from these funds and into other accounts.” According to the complaint, “The money was to be used for three purposes: administration of the Firearm Owners Identification Card (“FOID Card Act”), background checks for firearm-related services, and concealed carry licensing pursuant to the Firearms Concealed Carry Act (“FCCA”). Instead, the more than $29,500,000.00 has been subject to interfund transfers which are ostensibly to be repaid but which have not been, or swept into other accounts without an obligation to reimburse the funds at all.”

“The sweeping of funds has denied qualified Illinois citizens their rights and the ability to defend themselves and their families,” said SAF founder and Executive Vice President Alan M. Gottlieb. “Because of this practice, ISP processing of FOID and concealed carry applications has slowed to a crawl, allowing paperwork to languish. That’s not just poor performance, it’s pathetic.”

“The citizens of Illinois have been delayed getting their FOID cards for months,” added ISRA Executive Director Richard Pearson. “It is evident that these fund sweeps have caused these delays.”

Thomas has been fighting the system for nearly three years. He had previously held a FOID card and carry license, but lost them simply because he moved out of state for a while. Since his return, to be closer to his children. Lazic had a FOID and CCL appeal pending since 2017 when a charge against him was dismissed and later expunged.

“It is inexcusable that the ISP has simply allowed these cases to gather dust,” Gottlieb said. “Denial of rights under color of law is an abomination to the Second and 14th Amendments of the Constitution and Illinois state law. ISP has had plenty of time to do the right thing, and didn’t. Now we’re asking the court to make them do it.”

300 HAM’R Accepted by SAAMI

Berryville, AR — Wilson Combat is excited to announce that the 300 HAM’R cartridge, originally developed in 2018, has been accepted by SAAMI as a standardized cartridge.
The Sporting Arms and Ammunition Institute, Inc. (SAAMI), is the organization at the forefront of promoting firearm safety by creating standards that ensure safety, reliability and interchangeability of firearms, ammunition and components.

The .30 caliber cartridge is designed to optimize performance of 95gr-150gr bullets and to function in the AR15 platform. Muzzle velocities range from 2280fps to 2770fps out of a 16” barrel depending on bullet weight. The cartridge operates at a maximum average pressure of 57,500psi.

Designed for self defense, law enforcement and hunting applications, the terminal performance of the cartridge is comparable to the legendary .30-30 Winchester. However, the 300 HAM’R has a substantially flatter trajectory due to the higher ballistic coefficient of the bullets used.

In addition, Wilson Combat would like to publicly thank Starline Brass of Sedalia, MO, Western Powders of Miles City, MT and Sig Sauer Ammunition of Jacksonville, AR for their assistance during development and an extra thanks to Sig Sauer Ammunition for submitting the cartridge to SAAMI.

Introducing two new Wilson Combat
loadings for the 300 HAM’R!

Wilson Combat is now offering 300 HAM’R cartridges loaded with the 110-grain solid copper Barnes Tipped Triple-Shock X bullet and the Wilson Combat/Speer 150 grain HAM’R bonded bullet.

The Barnes Tipped Triple Shock is noted for accurate deep penetration on medium-large game.

At 2600 feet per second and approximately 1651 foot-pounds of energy, it is a devastating choice for hunting or defense.

The all-new HAM’R BONDED load uses a 150 grain Wilson Combat/Speer collaboration bonded bullet that is the heaviest available for the 300 HAM’R. At 2300 feet per second and 1762 foot-pounds of energy, the HAM’R BONDED load is the heaviest 300 HAM’R load available and is ideal for tactical or big-game hunting use.

To further enhance reliability and extraction when your rifle is heavily fouled or when shooting suppressed, the HAM’R BONDED is also available loaded in premium nickel-plated cases.

CCRKBA: Bloomberg Bought Va., Now He’s Trying to Buy the U.S.

Contact: Alan Gottlieb (425) 454-4911

BELLEVUE, WA – Anti-gun billionaire Michael Bloomberg’s Everytown for Gun Safety lobbying group will spend at least $60 million to support gun control candidates in 2020, leading the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms to declare “Last year he bought Virginia, now he’s trying to buy the United States.”

“Virginia was a test of Bloomberg’s buying power,” CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb observed, “and look how that has worked out. Now his gun prohibition lobbying group is promising to roll out the big bucks to buy state legislative and congressional races nationwide. He is weaponizing his wealth in an attempt to purchase the presidency, along with Capitol Hill and every state legislature in hopes of forcing every American to live under his dictates.”

Bloomberg’s surrogates are reportedly focusing on 13 states including Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Texas and Wisconsin. The effort also is targeting Republican Senators Cory Gardner of Colorado and Martha McSally of Arizona for defeat.

“Gun owners cannot allow Bloomberg to buy their gun rights,” Gottlieb warned. “The Constitution is not for sale, no matter how much money some wealthy demagogue is willing to spend.

“If anyone thinks Bloomberg is scary as a candidate,” he continued, “they will be downright terrified if he were to actually win the White House and have a majority of state and federal lawmakers beholden to him for getting them elected. That kind of power should never be allowed.

“We have watched Bloomberg’s money influence politics in Oregon, Washington, Nevada, Colorado and elsewhere with considerable alarm,” Gottlieb stated, “and now his Everytown lobbying group is not even being subtle about its intentions. Their goal is to oust as many pro-rights public officials as possible this fall, paving the way for the kind of government our forefathers threw off 234 years ago.

“This is a call to action,” he stated, “for every gun owner in the country to get engaged. Be sure you’re registered to vote at your current address, and make sure your friends and family members are registered. Start organizing get-out-the-vote efforts in your communities. Get involved in political campaigns and actively support candidates who support your rights, and above all, make protecting the Second Amendment your personal responsibility.

“Michael Bloomberg’s wealth does not give him the right to determine anyone else’s rights,” Gottlieb said. “America’s gun owners can’t let this country go on the auction block. There are no dollar signs on the Bill of Rights, not now, not ever.”

SIG SAUER Introduces CROSS Rifle

SIG SAUER Introduces CROSS Rifle: The First SIG SAUER Precision Bolt-Action Hunting Rifle Manufactured in the USA

NEWINGTON, N.H. – SIG SAUER, Inc. is pleased to introduce the CROSS Rifle. The first SIG-built precision bolt-action hunting rifle is designed by SIG SAUER engineers, completely manufactured and machined at the SIG SAUER facilities in New Hampshire, and tested by premier competitive shooters, the world’s best long range shooters, and a team of professional hunters that the CROSS is built for.

“When our product management team and engineers researched developing a bolt-action rifle, they looked at what was missing from the market, and what new innovation SIG could bring to hunters and precision shooters,” began Tom Taylor, Chief Marketing Officer and Executive Vice President, Commercial Sales. “Hunting rifles are typically focused on less weight, and accuracy is secondary. Precision rifles are designed for extreme accuracy, with no weight limitations. What was missing from the market was a true crossover. Our product management team and engineers took the best of both worlds and developed the CROSS featuring the characteristics of a hunting rifle, with the accuracy of a precision rifle.”

The CROSS Precision Bolt-Action Hunting Rifle is a lightweight precision rifle with a push button, foldable SIG precision stock, a one-piece aluminum receiver that eliminates the need for bedding the action, and AI magazines for creating the most accurate precision hunting platform. The CROSS features a stainless-steel rifled barrel with a free-float M-LOK handguard, a 2-stage match-grade trigger externally adjustable from 2.5 – 4 lbs., ambi-safety, a three-lug bolt design with a 60-degree throw and interchangeable bolt handle. The precision stock is spring-loaded for one handed operation and can be fully adjusted in the field for length of pull and comb height with no tools. The rifle has a full-length replaceable picatinny rail that allows for direct optics mounts, 20 MOA, and O MOA. The CROSS is available in 6.5 Creedmoor, 308 WIN, and the soon-to-be-released 277 SIG Fury Hybrid Ammunition with a black anodized or First Lite camo finish.

“Right out of the box the CROSS comes loaded with new innovation and features that hunters and precision shooters will appreciate at a very affordable $1,779.00 MSRP price point,” continued Taylor. “The CROSS delivers on all fronts, and we are especially proud that everything about the CROSS from concept to completion is 100% SIG SAUER and comes directly from our U.S. operations here in New Hampshire.”
