Sumter, South Carolina Police Department Transitions to Complete SIG SAUER Platform with P320 and P365 Pistols

Newington, N.H. – SIG SAUER, Inc. is proud to announce the Sumter Police Department in Sumter, South Carolina has adopted both the SIG SAUER P320, and the P365 pistols, chambered in 9mm, as their official duty pistols.

The Sumter Police Department is a full-service law enforcement agency comprised of seven divisions with 120 sworn officers protecting over 40,000 citizens.

“The decision for us to transition from our GLOCK pistols to a complete SIG SAUER system was based on quality, performance, and safety. In testing we put the P320 and the P365 through the paces and, quite impressively, they both performed beyond expectations throughout our rugged testing requirements,” said Captain Michael Evans, Support Services, Sumter Police Department.

“Additionally, the modularity of the P320 allows our officers to choose a grip based on comfort without the addition of bulky backstraps, and we are really seeing the benefits of this feature in higher qualifying scores,” said Evans. “As for our detectives, the P365 is the perfect pistol because of the small size and high-capacity which makes it easy to conceal without sacrificing rounds. The P365 will also be placed into service as our agency issued backup firearm to replace the current GLOCK 43.”

The SIG SAUER P320 is a modular, striker-fired pistol available in full-size, carry, compact, and subcompact sizing. The serialized trigger group makes the P320 adaptable to multiple caliber, size, and grip options. The P320 is available in 9mm, .357SIG, 40S&W, and .45ACP, with a choice of contrast, or SIGLITE Night Sights. The intuitive 3-point takedown requires no trigger pull for disassembly, and safety features include a striker safety, disconnect safety, and optional manual safety.

The SIG SAUER P365 is an everyday, concealed carry pistol. This high capacity micro-compact pistol is smaller and lighter than other pistols in its class. It features a high-capacity, patented modified double-stack magazine for a 10+1 full-size capacity, with 12-round factory made magazines available for 13-round capacity.

“The Sumter Police Department is our first agency to simultaneously adopt both the P320 and the P365 pistols as their official duty firearms and we could not be more excited about it,” added Tom Jankiewicz, Executive Vice President, law Enforcement Sales, SIG SAUER, Inc. “The P320 features unprecedented modularity and safety, and the P365 truly offers the ultimate in concealment combined with a full-size carry capacity. The features of both of these pistols is very desirable to law enforcement agencies, and we could not be more pleased to have them recognized by the men and women of the Sumter Police Department in their choice to transition to SIG SAUER.”

The Sumter Police Department will replace their current issue GLOCK pistols with the SIG SAUER P320 and P365 pistols. Local distributor Lawmen’s Distribution LLC in Columbia, South Carolina will provide product locally.

Thompson Auto-Ordnance Introduces Tanker WWII Thompson

(Greeley, PA) – Thompson Auto-Ordnance, maker of the famous “Tommy Gun” and other classic firearms throughout history, is excited to introduce the special edition WWII themed Tanker Thompson.

“Built like a tank” is a phrase that has entered the American lexicon as a means to describe hardware that is durable, strong and nearly indestructible. The term may have originated in describing armored fighting vehicles, but it also clearly describes the Tommy Gun. It is only fitting then, that Auto-Ordnance continue the series of WWII commemorative guns with the “Tanker Thompson,” dedicated to the memory of the brave American soldiers who faced the enemy in steel chariots like the M4 Sherman Tank.

Nearly 50,000 Shermans were produced during World War II, seeing action primarily in Europe against Nazi Germany. Just like the Thompson, these Shermans were a vital part of the war effort. Though the crews that took them into harm’s way were often outgunned by German tanks, they took the fight to the enemy and achieved victory despite the odds.

Auto-Ordnance is proud to honor America’s armored warriors with this commemorative Thompson. Each Tanker Thompson is Cerakoted in Army O.D. Green. The white star of the Sherman Tank is engraved just in front of the magwell. The “U.S.” logo is engraved on the buttstock. Like every Thompson, the gun is all steel with high grade walnut furniture. The 16” barrel is exceptionally accurate. Owning the Tanker Thompson gives the modern shooter the opportunity to own a piece of history while honoring the memory of the brave tank crews who delivered on America’s promise to achieve final victory in World War II.

The Tanker Thompson, model TM1C1, is chambered in .45 ACP, features a walnut fixed stock with U.S. logo and vertical foregrip. It comes with 30-round and 20-round stick magazines, Kerr sling and a mag pouch. Contact your local firearms dealer to order your Tanker WWII Thompson! MSRP is $1749.

Firearms Industry Releases 2018 Midterm Election Scorecard

NEWTOWN, Conn. — The National Shooting Sports Foundation® (NSSF®), the trade association for the firearms, ammunition, hunting and shooting sports industries, released its 2018 Congressional Scorecard in advance of the upcoming midterm elections to assist voters when deciding which incumbent candidates, based on their voting records, are most likely to support their ability to purchase firearms and to exercise their Constitutional rights.

The scorecard is an assessment of several years of voting records on 10 key issues affecting firearms, ammunition, hunting and the shooting sports. It can be found by visiting www.nssf.org, then clicking the tabs for Government Relations and then Legislative Action Center. The voting records include such issues as concealed carry reciprocity, expanding access to public hunting lands and votes on Supreme Court nominees. The score reflects the voting record and is not an endorsement of a particular candidate.

“The National Shooting Sports Foundation is following a practice similar to that of other trade associations that report on how candidates voted on issues impacting their ability to conduct the lawful commerce in arms and encouraging participation in hunting and the shooting sports,” said Lawrence G. Keane, NSSF Senior Vice President and General Counsel for Government and Public Affairs. “It was clear in the last presidential election that the ability to freely exercise Second Amendment rights and fully participate in the shooting sports was a deciding factor for many voters. Members of our industry, gun owners and sportsmen and sportswomen are strongly urged to participate in this election and should be fully informed of how their prospective Members of Congress vote on the issues impacting their livelihood and recreational activities.”

The scorecard is an extension of NSSF’s #GUNVOTE® voter education campaign. #GUNVOTE allows voters to enter their information and find out who their candidates are, where they stand on firearms-related issues and steps to cast a ballot. NSSF urges all voters, “Don’t Risk Your Rights” and visit www.gunvote.org.

About NSSF

The National Shooting Sports Foundation is the trade association for the firearms industry. Its mission is to promote, protect and preserve hunting and the shooting sports. HK VP9-B Announced

Columbus, Georgia — Introducing the newest option on the most ergonomic striker fired handgun available, the VP9-B in 9mm. Retail priced at $719, the VP9-B offers a new US-style reversible push button and utilizes the same magazines as the other VP9 Series. The new push-button style mag release option from HK means the VP doesn’t just fit your hand, it fits your shooting style as well.

In any firearm, especially a handgun, the many “touchpoints ”between the shooter and the firearm are critical to consistent, repeatable, performance. Now, no matter how you are built or how you shoot, the VP series just fits.

• Depending on your shooting style, you can choose between a European-style ambidextrous paddle mag release or the new US-style reversible button. This determination must be made at time of purchase, as the two models are not convertible.

• The most ergonomic, adaptable grip frame available allows you to interchange both backstraps and grip panels in 27 unique configurations to fit your hand.

• The VP trigger is a real upgrade over the industry standard of many years. It has a short, light take-up with a solid, clean break; followed by a short, positive reset.

VP9-B models are made in HK’s Oberndorf factory in southwest Germany using all of the company’s advanced barrel manufacturing technologies and high level production of their machined steel slides, polymer frames, and all internal components. HK VP pistols are competitively priced and covered by Heckler & Koch’s lifetime warranty.

The Sword That Kills – The Sword That Spares

In the last few years I have been revisiting my origins, but from a perspective of experience. So much of what I do…and did, is based on those early brutal lessons a lifetime ago,

I remember the heady days of my first black belt. Not the strip mall after school stuff most people think of today. Shodan, or level one test took two days and even at 16 years old my legs were bruised so bad I couldn’t walk without a limp for a week, and the following day my arms were so beaten

I could not hold a cup of coffee.

But when my name was called followed by Shodan – black belt – the blood on my uniform and knuckles bore testament that this was earned, not bestowed.

The tradition was that afterwards, the Sensei and Sempai (Instructor and seniors in the dojo) would take the new black belts to Little Tokyo in LA and we would watch a Toshiro Mifune film, or two, then retire to a fine meal in typical Samurai style to include Sake. No questions were ever made of our age nor ID asked for. It was a different age and the proprietors of the place knew what we were when we walked in and sat.

As I took my first sip of Sake in what was a new world, Sensei asked us if we picked up on the theme of one of the movie we saw.

Katsujin-ken / Satsujin-ken (The sword that kills…the sword that spares life).

“You are killers”, he said as he raised a cup of hot sake..

“Your kick could easily rupture a man’s spleen or stop his heart.

“Your punch or strike could break a neck…and you have the speed to make such attacks indefensible.

“This is good because Karate is not for hippy tree hugging bullshit – karate…real karate is for killing bad people that want to hurt innocents”

We sat listening.

“There is evil in the world. I have seen it firsthand. I won’t tell you that I hope you never have to use your skills, because then those skills would be worthless. Life will bring you plenty of opportunities to use them. With us, the hand and the sword are in essence the same. So the hand that kills and the hand that saves life are the same.

God has given you the ability to reach the level you have this weekend. Whether you like it or not, you have a calling now to resist evil when it is presented to you, because by doing so lives of the innocents will be saved. The hand that kills is also the hand that saves”.

That was the fall of 1976.
