News and Information June 29, 2018

This week on High Caliber Radio we will celebrate our nation’s Independence Day.  We will talk about the origins of our revolution, the hardships faced bu the patriots and the importance of personally owned firearms in our War for Independence.  Our late friend and co-host George Cabaniss was an authority on Revolutionary War History and we will hear him speak again.  We will also be playing patriotic music and dialog from great American patriots.

I urge everyone to go to Todayinfortsmith.com and read the article that has been posted about my friend Bill Fleming.  This article bears as a warning of Gov’t over reach and the hardships that can be visited upon a law abiding citizen that ruffles the feathers of Gov’t agents.

Mossberg Introduces 590M Shockwave 12-Gauge Pump Action

Combining the convenience and adaptability of a mag-fed shotgun with a “Non-NFA” pump-action platform, Mossberg is proud to introduce the 590M Shockwave 12-gauge firearm with 15-inch barrel, pistol grip and the world’s first double-stack, 10-round shotgun magazine. And for greater versatility, optional 5, 10, 15 and 20-round capacity magazines are sold as accessories. This compact 12-gauge is classified by the BATFE (Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives) as a “Non-NFA Firearm,” requiring no tax stamp for transfers.

Based upon Mossberg’s proven pump-action platform, standard features of the 590M Shockwave include non-binding twin action bars; positive steel-to-steel lock-up; dual extractors; anodized aluminum receiver drilled and tapped for convenience of adding optics; 15-inch heavy-walled barrel; convenient cleanout magazine tube; and universally-recognized, ambidextrous top-mounted safety. With the included 10-round magazine, these 12-gauge 2.75-inch pump-actions have a total round capacity of 10+1.

Unique to the Shockwave platform, and providing its novel moniker, is the Shockwave Technologies Raptor® pistol grip.

This well-designed pistol grip features an enhanced textured finish and has a “bird’s head” shaped-profile, allowing for maximum control while minimizing felt recoil. The grip is constructed of durable, glass-filled polymer with non-reflective, black finish and has an overall length of 5.25 inches. Completing the furniture package for the 590M Shockwave is the cob-styled, tactical forend which is strapped for greater control and smoother operation.

At the core of the 590M Shockwave are the magazine’s integral stabilizing ribs which engage the magazine directly to notches machined into the receiver, ensuring a positive lock-up. The all-steel, heated-treated magazine release button and housing are optimally-positioned in front of the trigger guard for convenient, ambidextrous access for unloading and reloading. The location of the mag release does not interfere with cycling of the action. The well-executed design allows for proper balance with a full-magazine located at the center of gravity point.

As a first for mag-fed shotguns, the 590M design features a patented double-stack magazine constructed with hardened-steel feed lips, over-molded steel shell ramps and an anti-cant, rounded follower to ensure reliable feeding. Additional features include an easy-grip, molded external shell; proprietary self-lubricating polymer magazine body; heavy-duty ASTM-A-228 music-wire magazine spring for prolonged service life; removable floor plate for ease of cleaning; and durable black oxide finish on the steel components. This proprietary double-stack magazine design provides greater capacity in less magazine length versus competitor’s single stack magazines.

The 590M Shockwave features an overall length of 27.5 inches, recoil-taming pistol grip (not designed to be shoulder-mounted), compact 15-inch barrel length and the convenience of magazine-feeding. By definition, the Shockwave platform is a “firearm” under the Gun Control Act of 1968 (GCA), and is not subject to the provisions of the National Firearms Act (NFA), although state and local laws may be more restrictive. To read a copy of the letter from the BATFE regarding federal classification of the Shockwave or more information on Mossberg’s family of Shockwave firearms, including the 590M Shockwave, please visit www.mossberg.com.

SIG SAUER P320 X-Carry to Become the Standard Service Pistol for the Danish Ministry of Defense

Newington, N.H.   – SIG SAUER, Inc. is pleased to announce the Danish Ministry of Defense (MoD) has selected the SIG SAUER P320 X-Carry to replace their standard service pistol covering the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Special Operations Command (SOCOM). The Danish MoD is the ministry within the Danish government charged with ensuring peace and security, both nationally and internationally, and is comprised of the Danish armed forces, the Danish Defense Intelligence Service, and the Danish Emergency Management Agency.

The procurement process for the Danish MoD’s new standard service pistol lasted four weeks in which the Glock 17 Gen 5, Beretta APX, Canik TP 9 SF, and the SIG P320 X-Carry, were tested under all possible conditions and varying circumstances that the pistol would be used. Testing for accuracy, night shooting, and field testing were conducted by the Army, Navy, Air Force, and SOCOM. Additional drop, penetration, and precision testing were conducted by various selected experts for each of the contenders.

“By far SIG SAUER’s P320 X-Carry outperformed the competition throughout our rigorous and stringent testing process,” Tom Elvius-Brisson, Chief of Weaponry Branch, Danish Defense Acquisition and Logistics Organization. “The P320 X-Carry pistol is the modern firearm we were looking for to support our soldiers. The P320 X-Carry has a larger magazine capacity, comes reflex red-dot ready for sighting, and has the ability to incorporate a suppressor – all extremely important features to our soldiers for their sidearm today and are all features which were missing on the current pistol in service in the Danish Defense.”

The P320 X-Carry is a modular, striker-fired pistol with a serialized trigger group available in varying grip sizes and adaptable to multiple calibers. The standard service P320 X-Carry pistol that will be issued by the Danish MoD comes with an enhanced X-carry polymer grip, flat trigger, extended beaver tail, extended removable magwell, and a deep trigger guard undercut. The pistol will come standard with XRAY 3 Night-Sights with the option to easily interchange reflex red-dot sights. The intuitive 3-point takedown requires no trigger pull for disassembly, and safety features include a striker safety, disconnect safety, and optional manual safety.

The SIG SAUER P320 X-Carry will replace all pistols currently in service across the Danish Ministry of Defense.

“At SIG SAUER we are committed to manufacturing and providing firearms for the global military and defense community that surpass expectations in quality, performance, and safety. We are very proud that the P320 continues to be the top choice by military and law enforcement from around the world as their standard issue pistol.” added Ron Cohen, President and CEO of SIG SAUER, Inc. “It’s an honor to earn the confidence of the Danish Ministry of Defense, to support their mission, and to strengthen our partnership through this selection of the SIG SAUER P320 X-Carry.”

Denmark is the first European NATO country to officially select a SIG SAUER P320 series pistol as the officially issued standard service firearm. The MOD contract will be serviced by our partner in Denmark, CT Solutions ApS.

THE INDIAN OR THE ARROW?
We have all heard the analogy of the indian and the arrow. It is true, a skilled indian – or in this case “archer” – can do amazing things with less than optimal equipment…and we all hope to be that man. But the skilled archer with the best arrow and bow will be able to express his skills to a much higher level than if he was equipped with less optimal gear.
I have a S&W 686 in my safe. It is the epitome of the police service pistol circa 1985. It went with me into harm’s way for many years, and if it is what I had in my belt when I faced a trio of terrorists, I would be very thankful for it and go into battle smiling knowing that I would accomplish my mission well and artfully. But if I had a choice, and of course we all do, I would opt for what I am carrying now – a Suarez modified Glock 17 – as it would afford me the ability to express my skills with greater ease, greater safety, and for a longer time than my old 686.
One big failing in American culture today seems to be an all or nothing mentality on things. Life is not that way. So if a guy enrolls in ten classes and brings a Kel-Tec or Ruger LCR with him, I would tell him to only enroll in two classes, sell that Zimm-wannabe gun, and get something that will allow him to fight better. The reverse is often the case…and we see him as well…the dude with a $3000 pistol that could not fight his way out of the morgue.
And it doesn’t need to be that way at all guys. A couple of analogies.
When my daughter was on a rowing crew, the school needed a new boat and was waffling on going the cheap route and buying a less than optimal boat thinking the “great indians” crewing it would make up the difference. But that difference was greater resistance in the water, more weight, and thus less speed. We made up the difference to get the better boat and it made all the difference for them.
Great rowers in a low quality boat, no matter how good they were, would NEVER be as good as great rowers in a great boat.
Another analogy…this from pop culture. There was a commercial on Fox Business News (some sort of investment that I do not recall). It went like this. “If an Olympic cyclist on a racing bike raced a ten year old kid on a tricycle who would win? The Olympic cyclist of course. But put the Olympian on the tricycle and the race will be won by the kid on the racing bike”.
The indian may be more important than the arrow, but only very slightly so. The quality of the arrow, boat, or pistol either allows the man wielding it to express his skills to his highest level, or it fights him every step of the way, preventing him from being his best. So yes, be a good archer, rower, shooter…but don’t cheap out on your gear, mistakenly thinking skill alone will help you hit the cowboy.
So while one man might say the archer is more important than the arrow. We say that at the end of the day, the archer and the arrow are of equal importance.
