This week on High Caliber Radio, we will talk to Jason Morton of CZ-USA about the long awaited, “Glock Killer”.  The CZ P10 has finally made into to the marketplace.  The P10 is CZ’s first polymer frame, striker fired pistol.  The examples I handled have a fantastic trigger and all P10s come from the factory with steel sights, just 2 of the reasons they are being called Glock Killers.  We will also talk to Dave Fulson of Safari Classics about the fate of the missing South African PH and also about the on going fight against anti hunting groups.

Rock River, Springfield Armory Respond to Illinois SB 1657

Statement from Chuck Larson, President/Owner, Rock River Arms, Inc.

Rock River Arms, Inc.® (RRA) wants to assure the Illinois (and national) firearms community that we are still 100 percent opposed to the Gun Dealer Licensing Act – SB1657, the house version of the same bill, and any potential final legislation that may come from those bills along with any other infringements on the gun rights of law-abiding citizens everywhere.

For more than twenty years, Rock River Arms and Springfield Armory has actively opposed gun control legislation at the local, state, and federal levels. In 2009, we partnered with other manufacturers to form an organization geared towards representing our interests – The Illinois Firearms Manufacturers Association (IFMA). Historically, that organization has done well in representing us in Springfield, Illinois. We had no reason to believe that it was doing anything beyond representing the firearms community’s (Illinois firearms manufacturers, dealers and gun owners) best interests, keeping us well-informed on relevant legislation and issues, acting on our behalf. In the case of SB1657, there was a disconnect and that representation was misguided.

While we do believe that IFMA acted in what it felt was the best interests of its members, we were as shocked as everyone else to find ourselves exempted from provisions of SB1657 and that IFMA was no longer opposing that bill, even though RRA still opposed it.

Again, Rock River Arms wants to emphasize (regardless of anything that may have been said or done, mistakenly or otherwise, by any other party on our behalf) its continued total opposition to SB1657, the Illinois House version of the bill and any final legislation that may emerge. This includes any provisions found in Gun Dealer Licensing Act SB1657, along with any other threats that may infringe upon our gun rights.

If you have any further questions or require more information about our position, please contact:

Sarah Larson, General Manager or Steve Mayer, LE, Government, and International Sales Manager
at 309-792-5780.

Thank you.

Chuck Larson

Springfield Armory Statement Regarding Gun Dealer Licensing Act (SB1657).

GENESEO, IL– Springfield Armory has always fought hand-in-hand with the NRA, NSSF, ISRA and many others for legislation that fiercely protects the Second Amendment, individual rights and the industry as a whole. Our fight continues today as some members of the Illinois legislature are pushing to overregulate the industry through Gun Dealer Licensing Act (SB1657).

“At the time of my initial statement to the media, I was ill-informed of the ramifications of this bill and its detrimental effects to the Second Amendment, which I have personally fought to protect my entire life. I can tell you now, we at Springfield Armory are unequivocally 100 percent against this bill and will continue to work with the NRA and others to ensure that it is defeated,” said Dennis Reese, Chief Executive Officer, Springfield Armory.

Springfield Armory, like Rock River Arms, was not aware of the actions taken by our trade association, IFMA, until after the fact. We take this situation very seriously and are looking into how this very unfortunate lapse in communication occurred.

Springfield Armory has fought and defeated legislation like this in Illinois for the past 15 years. We are wholeheartedly against this bill and will fight to see it defeated as the unnecessary and harmful overreach that it is.

Taurus USA Introduces their New T4SA

(Miami, FL) –Taurus USA announces their new Taurus® T4SA at the 146th annual NRA Meetings in Atlanta, Georgia. Taurus USA, a leading manufacturer of innovative design in the firearms industry, is reinforcing the company’s commitment to American-made quality and ingenuity. The Taurus T4SA is a lightweight gas-impingement 5.56mm semi-automatic carbine that boasts superior reliability and durability.

Those attending the NRA show will be the first to see the Taurus T4SA that is designed, engineered and manufactured entirely within the United States. The carbine incorporates production processes and components that enhance performance, functionality, corrosion resistance and service life. The Taurus T4SA forged upper receiver 1913 rail features “T” Mark reference points for convenient mounting and reattaching of accessories. The Taurus T4SA comes standard with a lightweight, low-profile KeyMod™ or M-LOK® aluminum handguard versus traditional closed plastic handguards with heat shield inserts. The KeyMod and M-LOK configurations remove unwanted or unnecessary 1913 rails, reducing mass weight and provides proven reliable platforms for mounting sights, optics and numerous accessories. Heat vents milled into the top 1913 rail allow rapid cooling without causing an excessive mirage effect. The T4SA’s handguard is minimalized which allows for effective air cooling while reducing overall handguard circumference and dirt/debris collection between the handguard and barrel. Quick Disconnect (QD) attachment points are featured on the right and left side of the KeyMod handguard. The QD is built into existing KeyMod slots and acts as either a QD or a fully functioning KeyMod slot. Two QD’s are on the three and nine O’clock sides of the 16″ and 14.5″ barrel handguards and one each on the 11.5″ handguards.

The Taurus T4SA utilizes an M16 style bolt carrier, which is renowned for its durability and the additional mass reduces the recoil pulse during firing. The bolt and bolt carrier group (BCG) are Melonite™ treated, which hardens and improves surface properties of metal parts, enhancing performance and durability while minimizing wear. The thermochemical treated parts are highly resistant to corrosion and significantly easier to clean compared to traditional coatings. To ensure ideal performance, the Taurus T4SA bolt is tested utilizing Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI). These quality control measures are integrated into the Taurus work flow process, resulting in higher quality firearms for the market.

The T4SA barrel is chambered in 5.56 NATO and fires both 5.56 and 223 Rem ammunition. The 1:7 twist, chromoly barrel utilizes the Melonite process on all interior and exterior surface areas. It is extremely corrosion resistant, easy to clean and results in a significantly increased barrel life. Incorporating arduous military testing standards, the Taurus T4SA barrel exceeds a 10,000-round life when tested with M193 and M855 ball ammunition. While comparative testing with well-known carbine manufacturers utilizing a hammer forged, chrome-lined barrel, the Taurus T4SA barrel exceeded MIL-SPEC performance requirements by 4,000 rounds. The demanding and formidable testing conducted eclipsed normal expected use of avid shooters and law enforcement personnel.

The T4SA has a dual pinned Melonite low-profile gas block that replaces standard fixed front sight post gas blocks—reducing overall weight and allowing handguards to extend unimpeded past the gas block. Gas port sizing is tuned for optimal system operation without over pressurizing the operating system—reducing friction, heat and fouling, allowing for longer part life while maintaining MIL-SPEC rate of fire for automatic fire.

The Taurus T4SA forged lower receiver is equipped with a Magpul® grip with internal storage and a Magpul oversized trigger guard that allows for the use of gloves when engaging targets or active threats. All fire control parts are manufactured to MIL-SPEC standards and fire control receiver markings utilize symbols for “safe” and “semi-automatic” instead of the English characters of “safe” and “semi”. The Taurus T4SA has a MIL-SPEC buffer tube, recoil spring, H2 buffer and a staked castle nut.

The Taurus T4SA features a lightweight, six-position Magpul CTR® buttstock with a no-snag triangle shape that reduces the chances of the buttstock becoming hooked or entangled. The buttstock has a position “locking” mechanism that keeps the buttstock from moving—making it more stable and improves accuracy versus other standard industry offerings. The buttstock comes standard with right and left side Quick Disconnect (QD) attachment points as well as slots for use with standard slings and/or sling cords. It will accommodate most major sling designs and features a shock-absorbing buttstock pad to reduce felt recoil and provide a non-slip surface for positive contact between the carbine and operator.

Anthony Acitelli, Taurus USA’s CEO comments, “The company has developed an extremely reliable and durable carbine based on the iconic M4 platform that exceeds MIL-SPEC standards. Manufactured at Taurus USA headquarters in Miami, the Taurus T4SA is a carbine that incorporates high quality components into a proven platform,” said Acitelli. “The T4 affirms that our USA-based engineering team continues to apply innovative, cost-conscious solutions to a wide variety of industry segment challenges.”

Based on the proven, biathlon-inspired SPA action built by fellow Austrian firearms manufacturer ISSC, the Steyr Scout RFR was designed from the ground up as an economical, minimal-recoil Scout Rifle trainer. Available in .22 LR, .22 WMR, and .17 HMR, the Scout RFR has an exceptionally smooth straight-pull action fed from its 10-round magazine, allowing for extremely fast cycling that makes training easy and range time enjoyable.

Code-named “Cub Scout” during its development, the Scout RFR features the same stock lines as the original Steyr Scout, as designed by Steyr engineers with the continual input of scout-rifle-concept visionary, Col. Jeff Cooper. The Scout RFR provides a 30-slot Picatinny rail along its barrel for forward-mounted optics. An integrated 3/8-inch dovetail base also runs the full length of the receiver’s topside, and a set of Weaver bases are also included for conventional scope mounting.

The Scout RFR also features a 20-inch heavy-barrel configuration for maximum accuracy. Both the .17 HMR and .22 LR barrels are 1/2-20 UNF threaded for the users’ choice of attachments, while the .22 WMR barrel is not. The overall length of the Scout RFR is 35.6 inches, and its base weight is 7.3 pounds. An optional knife tucks away neatly into the stock, and the standard Steyr SBS/Scout buttplate spacers can be swapped in or out to adjust length-of-pull.

The Scout RFR may not be exactly what Col. Cooper envisioned with his center-fire scout-rifle concept, but this rimfire rifle makes the idea as accessible to everyone as easy as it makes taking squirrels in your back yard or gaining a merit badge. The Steyr Scout RFR includes two Weaver bases; one 10-round, steel-box magazine; and an owner’s manual. The suggested retail of the Scout RFR is $599.

Ruger Introduces 10/22 Takedown Integrally Suppressed Barrel

Ruger Introduces An Integrally Suppressed Barrel for the 10/22 Takedown

Sturm, Ruger & Company, Inc. (NYSE: RGR) proudly introduces the Silent-SR® ISB for the 10/22 Takedown® platform. The ISB, or Integrally Suppressed Barrel, is an exciting addition to the Ruger® Silent-SR family that delivers quiet and accurate performance in a compact and truly user-serviceable package.
Known for its unrelenting reliability, durability and accuracy, the 10/22 Takedown rifle is the ideal platform for an integral suppressor. The Silent-SR ISB quickly and easily assembles to any Ruger 10/22 Takedown or 22 Charger™ Takedown, and features an induction-hardened breech with cold hammer-forged barrel that provide easy takedown and accurate return-to-zero – the same elements that have made the 10/22 Takedown an instant classic worthy of its heritage.
Reducing sound pressure levels of .22 LR to an average of 113.2 dB with standard velocity ammunition, a 10/22 Takedown rifle equipped with the Silent-SR ISB is as quiet as a bolt-action rifle with a thread-on silencer. Its compact, 16.12″ barrel length makes the Silent-SR ISB easy to handle, and the relatively long barrel of the Silent-SR ISB (compared to other integral suppressors) means the bullet generates energy near that of a 16″ gun for consistent, accurate and effective performance on target. The pushed-cone baffle geometry has been stretched to utilize the volume under the barrel maximizing suppression of the gunshot without disturbing the travel of the bullet.
Disassembly for cleaning is as simple as separating the barrel from your firearm and loosening the Silent-SR ISB’s single assembly screw using the included 5/32″ hex key tool. Once loose, pull the screw to remove all six 17-4 stainless steel baffles, spacer and front cap free of the sleeve for cleaning. The sealed baffles keep the fouling away from the serialized sleeve, yet easily come apart even after thousands of rounds. Finished with Cerakote, the Silent-SR ISB is engineered and built for a lifetime of hard use without clogged ports, seized components or loss of suppression that often plague other integrally suppressed rimfire barrels.
Suppressed firearms help to preserve our hearing, make verbal communication on the range easier and make shooting more fun. Paired with the Ruger 10/22 Takedown, the Silent-SR ISB makes the perfect training, plinking and small-game hunting platform.

Hornady Adds 6mm Creedmoor to Precision Hunter Line

Grand Island, NE — Due to the enormous popularity of the 6mm Creedmoor, Hornady continues to expand their offerings to satisfy today’s hunter. Topped with the newly designed 6mm 103 gr. ELD-X® bullet (.512 G1 BC), this new Precision Hunter offering delivers muzzle velocity of 3,050 feet per second.

Maintaining all the features of the Precision Hunter line of ammunition, the new 6mm Creedmoor features a streamlined secant ogive with optimum boattail design and highly concentric AMP® bullet jacket. Verified by Doppler radar, its Heat Shield® tip defies the effects of aerodynamic heating and retains its shape to maintain highest in class BC over its entire trajectory.

With high velocity (0-400 yd) impact, the ELD-X bullet continually expands throughout its penetration path. The thick shank of the jacket and high InterLock® ring keep the core and jacket together, providing 50%-60% weight retention. Upon low velocity (400+ yd) impact, the Heat Shield tip drives backward to initiate expansion, producing a substantial mushroom and 85%-90% retained weight.

The 6mm 103 gr. ELD-X Precision Hunter load is ideal for hunting deer, antelope, and other medium sized game. Its long bullet is designed for 1:8 twist barrels and is also available as a component bullet for handloaders (Item No. 24550).

The 6mm Creedmoor Precision Hunter® ammunition (Item No. 81392) and 103 gr ELD-X® bullets (Item No. 24550) are available from stocking dealers, major retail sporting goods stores, and their websites. Dealers can be found by visiting the Retail Locator on hornady.com.
